Personal Statement
For the longest period of time, I thought my life-long dream was to swim. I was a competitive swimmer for almost eight years and I was average but good enough to possibly swim at the collegiate level if I so desired. Then one day my dad sat me down for a heart to heart. He told me as an eight grader that next year was a year to decide if I really wanted to start my journey to swim in college. At the time, I was also playing volleyball for my school and I really loved it. This made me wonder, did I really want to keep swimming? A few weeks went by and I sat back down with my dad and burst into tears. I loved swimming, but I also had this newfound desire to play volleyball and I couldn't afford to do both at a high level. My dad asked me if I knew what I wanted and I said I want to play volleyball.
I started playing volleyball a lot later than most volleyball players do. As a freshman, I was a captain on the JV team at my high school. Sophomore year was a little different because I moved from Pinehurst, NC to Lumberton, NC. I was a starting pin hitter on varsity at Lumberton High School and I loved it; however, I hope to be given more opportunities in other positions, so I can be a versatile player.
My dream is to continue my volleyball career and take it to the collegiate level. Over the years, I have faced challenges that required me to learn how to be a teammate, leader, and example for others. I am looking for a program that will not only challenge me as a player or teammate, but also as a young adult. I believe that being a part of a collegiate program can push me towards becoming a person with drive and determination. As an athlete, I know that with work and discipline I can compete at the college level and offer whatever a program may need.
