Shelby Stevens '12 Recruiting Profile

Throughout the seven years I have been playing volleyball, I have truly grown to love the game; It has become the thing in my life that I am most passionate about. Playing volleyball isn't just something to do for me, it's everything. I have developed some of my best friends through playing this game. When I first started out playing, hitting was something I wanted to do, but being only 5'4", it has always been a challenge. I have done workouts to increase my vertical jump, which definitely has helped, but I realized that passing was something I have always been much better at. Playing libero or a DS is where I fit the best on the court. I have the most confidence playing there and I enjoy it best. During my high school experience thus far, I have started on varsity all three years and I feel as though I have led my team. Though I have not been captain, I have been one to make decisions, lead by example, and give my other teammates someone to look up to. I give everything I have not only in games, but in practice as well. I know playing volleyball is not something I want to stop after high school; I want to continue playing as long as I possibly can. I think about playing volleyball in college everyday and it's one of the most important things to me. Though I know I want to play at the next level, I'm not sure exactly where. If possible, I don't want to stray too far away from the west coast. States I'm interested in are the following: Oregon, Washington, California, and possibly Arizona. Also, I'm open to most schools fitting in the selective and most-selective range. I uncertain as to what I will major in yet. Playing volleyball at the next level is something I know want to do, so I'm open to where I can play and have the best chance at succeeding. Of course I want to play as I freshman, but it's not my top priority. I want to play at the highest level my athletic skill allows me to and I would love to earn an athletic scholarship. When it all boils down to it, I love the sport of volleyball and I want to play wherever I can.
