Whitman College E...Hey there! My name is Marley Hayes, and I am a junior this year, graduating in 2026. Fun fact: I have attended every home volleyball game at our high school since I was born - starting out in my baby carrier as a newborn (even though I slept through the first few matches.). I have been playing the sport of volleyball since 5th grade. I currently play high school volleyball at Joseph Charter School, in Joseph, OR.
I am also involved in club volleyball, playing for Storm Volleyball Club based out of Hermiston, OR. This is my first year at this club after switching, and I just finished this season competing for the 18U Black team. I enjoyed playing with my previous club team, but wanted to really step outside of my comfort zone to get used to playing with different players and for different coaches. I feel like this experience really helped me grow as a person and as a teammate, since I was playing with girls from much larger schools, and girls that I have never met before. I consider several of them my forever friends now! It was also a good growing experience for me to play for different coaches - everyone brings different experiences and knowledge to the plate.
For both high-school and club, I am a 6 rotation setter/hitter. For my high school season and then also club season, I would set back row in a 6-2 offense, and then would hit as a middle blocker (but also outside and opposite as needed.) I was versatile in all hitting and blocking positions even though I am primarily a setter. I also have experience running a 5-1 offense. I led multiple games in blocks, kills, aces, and assists as a Junior for our high school season this year, but I am most proud of how our team finished together and strong, ready to head into next season! This past season as a Junior I got selected to the 2nd team all tournament team.
I strive to be a positive leader on and off of the court, and was chosen as a team captain for both of my club teams for all 4 years I have been involved in club volleyball. I love helping to grow my passion for the sport, and have volunteered several years to help with the younger girls in elementary and junior high. I also have officiated our home junior high volleyball games. I figure this helps them, helps the program, and gives me more knowledge of the game.
I am a self-motivated person on and off of the court, and I currently have a 4.0 GPA. I have challenged myself academically as well, and will finish with 5 college dual credit classes by the end of my junior year. I also love spending free time riding my horse Yo-yo, a Sorrel gelding. I plan to major in sports medicine/kinesiology/exercise science after high school, and look forward to attending a college that will help me reach my goals of becoming an athletic trainer or sports medicine specialist. I have always had an immense passion for volleyball, and this started the first time I touched a volleyball. I enjoy participating in other sports and activities, but volleyball is the activity that makes excitement spark through me every time I step on the court. I work to earn money to be able to attend at least a couple of volleyball camps a year.
Volleyball has always been a great mental escape for me, and has always made me feel right at home. The volleyball court IS my happy place, and I love the relationships I have built with teammates and coaches. I am hoping to continue my passion and love for the sport moving on to the collegiate level. Thank you for your time!
