I'm very perserverent and determined to be the best setter I can be. I'm able to take criticism without taking it personally and learn from my mistakes. I'm good under pressure and don't let game circumstances affect my play. I've learned to be a leader on the court. I'm good at managing the scoreboard--I've trained my brain to make quick decisions based on the score and outsmart my opponents. I try my hardest to bring out the best in my teammates. I do this by encouraging them on and off of the court and creating a unified bond between the team.
My strengths are leading my team, controlling team morale, consistent sets, ball placement, and dumping (I'm ambidextrous, so it's easy for me to fool my blockers!)
EXPERIENCE:
As a 6th grader, I managed the middle school teams since I wasn't old enough to play. As a 7th grader, I managed the high school JV and Varsity teams. I was able to observe and learn advanced gameplay and even practice with them.
As a freshman, I was the starting setter on the Southwestern Mustangs varsity team. Throughout the season I worked closely with my coaches in order to understand the game of volleyball at a deeper level. I gained a lot of experience running quicker plays and I now have a better understanding on when I should run certain plays. I also worked hard on connecting with my older teammates over the season.
My freshman year, I played for the Yorktowne 17U Regional Club team as a 14 year old. I was offered spots on different 15U and 16U National teams, but I thought I'd gain more experience of playing at a faster pace at the 17U Regional level. I was our starting setter and team captain. I learned a lot that season and became a respected team leader even though I was the youngest.
My sophomore year, I was the starting setter on the Southwestern Mustangs Varsity team. We ran a 5-1 this year, and I got lots of experience running a quicker offense. My training has upped my vertical quite a few inches since last year, and I became much more skilled in blocking and dumping. I was voted Team Co-Captain by my teammates.
I'm currently playing for the Yorktowne 16 Blue National team. We're running a 6-2 offense. I'm looking forward to playing at the highest level in my own age group! This is a group of girls who (mostly) haven't played together before, so I'm excited to see how we mesh and grow together as a team throughout the season. We're off to a good start!
I look forward to many, many more years of playing competitive volleyball!
