Personal Statement
Uniquely, and unlike most other athletes, I did not start playing my sport until eighth grade. From the moment I stepped on the court, I absolutely fell in love with the game of volleyball.
My coaches tell me that I appeared to (naturally) advance my skills quickly & that being “coachable” was key to my rapid learning/development. I absorbed everything the coaches taught me and worked hard to become the best I could be at whatever position I was given to play. Eventually, I was chosen to be the team’s Libero/Team Captain (both HS & Club), and I have worked endlessly since, to try to perfect my defensive technique in that position & display leadership. Whether it be team practices/games, camps during the summer or club ball in the spring, I am always looking to grow as an athlete, and known by my teammates as a player that never lets up—I always put forth 110%, no matter the stakes. My teammates & coaches will tell you that I am the loudest on the court & encourage my girls on every point. My objective is to not only to be the best that I can for my team, but also for myself.
Outside of volleyball, I spend many hours volunteering with the National Honor Society program, as well with my family. During the summers, I attend church camp retreats and work part-time as a student intern for the County’s District Attorney’s office. I pride myself in my strong work ethic and determination, which has led to me maintaining such a high GPA, while juggling sports, school, and other extracurricular activities. I recognize that being a student athlete is difficult, and I have the will & determination to continue this success at the collegiate level.
I am ambitious, and fully intend to work as hard as it takes to play volleyball as a collegiate athlete. I live for the digs and the saves, the bruises and burns, the hustle and dives necessary to keep the ball alive. I love being on and contributing to a team, experiencing the highs of the victories and learning from defeat with a group of girls that become family. Competing and growing as an athlete, well…I love every aspect of the game and to put it simply, I don’t want it to end just because I graduate high school.
