Hi, my name is Cameron Coleman, and I am a 16-year-old middle blocker who wants to further grow my volleyball career by playing in college. I whole-heartedly love volleyball. Volleyball is a way for me to truly have fun with my teammates and to be taught discipline and teamwork. I started playing volleyball when I was in third grade at the YMCA and have continued to play. My love for the game helps me to stay active, and to create a support system of friends. In college, I would like to major in biochemistry or pre-medicine. I am prepared for the time and effort it will take to maintain good grades while playing volleyball in college. I understand what it takes to balance both school, volleyball, and community service. I am a motivated student who pushes myself in order to get good grades, as a result, I have gotten A/B honor roll throughout my entire academic education. I have also been recognized for Academic Excellence for the 2020-2021 schoolyear. My unweighted GPA is 3.9412 and my weighted GPA is 4.2353.
I have gotten the MVP award (most valuable player) at Ridge Point high school in the 2021-2022 season. Getting this award as a middle is a huge honor, because as a middle I don't have as many options to get set. However, since I know how to uplift and lead my team while doing my job as a middle, my teammates felt that I was well deserving of this award. I have also gotten the best offensive player award at Skyline in the season 2021-2022 on the team White. As a middle this award is a huge due to the fact that usually this award is typically given to outsides or right sides. I am great at finding the holes on the court and I am proud that I was chosen for this award.
I am active in school volleyball, club volleyball, volunteering as well as lots of academic studying. However, I also love to participate and compete in many clubs at my school. I am a member of Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) from 2020-2021 and competed I was also in Health Occupations students of America (HOSA) in 2021-2022 but didn’t compete. HOSA is a club where many students who want to go into medical occupations research jobs or build innovations and compete against each other. I researched the occupation of Physical therapy because I wanted to be like my mom and get my doctorate in physical therapy.
I was also participated in Black Girls Lead in 2021. This organization helps teach black girls around the world how to succeed in STEM fields and also by teaching life skills. I am also a Kick-Off Mentor (KOM) 2020-2022, which mentors incoming freshman. My other academic involvement includes being a member of the Spanish National Honor Society from 2021-2022, the African Diaspora Association Club (ADA) from 2021-2022, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) from 2021-2022, Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) in 2021-2022, and the YESS program.
Outside of school, I am involved in community service with the National Charity League Sienna Chapter (NCL). NCL is an organization where moms and daughters are taught etiquette, community service, and volunteerism.
