From age 5 to age 11 I was a competitive tennis player and had even made it to my first national tennis tournament at age 11. To my surprise my mom signed me up for a school Rec volleyball league and I was annoyed with her but knew my friends were playing so I decided to give it a try. I had zero volleyball experience ,but after that first serve went into the net, and then I got my second, third, fourth, fith and sixth serve in as kills I was hooked. Some Rec team dads suggested I get involved in Club volleyball ,and I was fortunate to walk onto a Club team at Skyline in Plano Texas as an 11 year old. I was able to play on the top team as a player who could develop. The coach liked my tennis history and as I have learned there is a lot of crossover in skills that compliment each game. I was tall for an 11 year old so I started as Middle Hitter for my first 2 years. My second club year I received the coaches award (Skyline award). As my hitting days neared an end becuase I wasn't nearing 5"10 plus I had an opoortunity to switch clubs and get trained as a setter for EMV's top team. My coach Chris Randle was also the club director ,and this year of volleyball my growth and development was monumental. I have continuted setting, but for my schools teams I will play wherever needed. I think my real strengths come in forms that aren't always obvious in a large group situation. I have been chosen as Captain of my team 2 on my 13's and 14's team for my leadership ability and my knowledge of the game. I am competitive and from my expereiences playing singles tennis I am able to keep calm and focused during critical times in game play. I always strive to do my best and encourage my teammates. I feel that I have a solid court IQ, but at my age I know it is still developing. As a setter I enjoy making calls and am always following my coaches calls. I like to spend extra time in the gym to get one on one technical training and feel it is always inportant to have personal growth as a setter as well as a teammate. As I have transitioned to High School Volleyball I am enjoying the competition with older players. I have made the Varsity team both as a Freshman and a Sophomore and have been a starter. Volleyball has become my passion and I hope to be able to continue playing in college.
