Personal Statement
When I discovered the sport of volleyball in 7th grade, I knew right away that this would be a lifelong passion. I loved the challenge and fast pace of the sport and soon found myself dreaming of one day playing collegiately. When I entered the world of club volleyball between my 8th and 9th grade seasons, what I lacked in a polished skill set I made up for with effort and dedication. Those first two seasons I earned a spot in the rotation as an OH, playing all-around in spite of topping out at 5'-6" in height. Partway through that second season, our team needed bolstering in the back row, and after talking it over with my coach and parents, decided to focus on becoming the best back-row, defensive specialist that I could be. As tough as that decision initially was, I've never looked back.
As I look to the future, both immediately as I decide where I will live, play, learn and grow for four years, and long term when I eventually have a family of my own, I know that athletics and specifically volleyball will be a part of that. I have worked hard both on the court and in the classroom to prepare myself for this process, and have maintained a 4.0 GPA while taking a series of AP and honors classes and participating in Choir, Varsity Volleyball, and this season, Track & Field. While my sights are firmly set on playing at the next level, I also understand that becoming a well-rounded woman with a variety of skill and passions is important.
I plan to do great things. To be a part of great things. To make a difference. To not only be a great player, but a great teammate and someday a role model to my own children. The institution that opens the door, the door that I step through, will be a huge part of this story.
Let's write it together.
