My name is Amaya Leiby and I am a dedicated water polo player who lives in Gresham, OR. I swam competitively from the ages of 6-10, and began my water polo journey at the age of 11. Since then, I have never looked back as I completely fell in love with the sport.
After my high-school team won the Oregon State Championship my freshman year, I knew that, though I was grateful for my roots with Oregon water polo, I needed to play at a higher level. I signed up for an ODP camp and made the 2019 Cadet National Team, after having a fantastic showing at the National Training Selection Camp. Then, I took a leap of faith and moved to Oakland, California to play with Diablo Alliance for the remainder of the summer. My team and I placed 6th at the National Junior Olympics, and I had the privilege of starting. As if the summer was not fantastic enough, I took off to Barcelona, Spain to play with the Cadet Futures team. In short, it was the trip of a lifetime.
During these crazy times of 2020, I have remained committed to the sport. I am currently lifting weights four mornings a week and am back in the pool training four evenings a week. I have been encouraged by how quickly I am gaining my skills back, but am determined to never settle. I yearn to compete at the highest level and am intent on being the best athlete I can be.
Outside of the water, I enjoy writing, studying, reading, and spending time with my family. I am currently taking AP Biology, AP World History, Precalculus Honors, Advanced Composition Honors, Worldviews, and Spanish 2 through a private online school based out of Richmond, VA. I have attended this school for the last two years and am passionate about learning.
