Personal Statement
Sophomore year, I heard about a womens wrestling team beginning in our school, and the idea stuck in my mind. Having competed in pageants for the past 10 years, when I had brought up the idea with my friends I was laughed at and they assumed I would never do it, never mind succeed in such a "boy" sport. That same day on the way to track practice, I stopped and felt an urge to turn around, leading me without a doubt in my mind to the wrestling room.
Over my past two years, I have genuinely shocked myself on the amount of times that I have gotten knocked down, hurt, concussed and gotten right back up again. In every aspect, I am now the last person to quit. I've learned that as a person I am fueled by challenges, defying expectations, and always pushing for that extra mile even if it means I may be alone doing so.
Having been the only girl to attend weightlifting, take the varsity lineup on at practice, as well as wrestling jv boys, I have grown tremendously and gained strength that has continuously pushed me to perform my best. My passion for this sport has grown not only by itself, but through the passion of those around me. I am beyond excited to take on even more challenges, and push myself farther this upcoming season and for all those to come.
