My name is Victor Petkov. I am from Ridgefield, CT. I have been wrestling for almost about 6 years now. I am proud to just have completed my third varsity season. I have achieved several notable accomplishments throughout my wrestling journey. In just my second year wrestling in 6th grade, I took second at States. I was really looking forward to wrestling my freshman year, unfortunately it got canceled due to the pandemic. Sophomore season was my first wrestling season in High School. I ended the season with 29 wins and 13 losses, and with a solid third place at FCIAC's and 6th place at LL State's. I really started to fall in love with this sport at the end of sophomore year and the beginning of junior year. I worked very hard in the offseason with club wrestling to improve. I played soccer for eight years at a very competitive level and wrestling became my primary focus. I saw great progress during my Junior season. I took fourth at state opens and I qualified for New England's. I finished with a 42-12 record on the season. I received an outstanding wrestling award, having the most pins, wins, reversals, most points scored, and over 100 takedowns. I made it to the blood round of Eastern States, to the consolation round of 16 at NHSCA Nationals, and became a MAWA All American.
During the 2022-2023 season, I had the privilege of serving as the captain of the wrestling team. This leadership role allowed me to further demonstrate one of my core strengths, which is my ability to positively impact the overall dynamics of any wrestling room. In addition to my personal growth and continuous self-improvement, I took an active role in fostering the growth and development of my teammates. I would always help my teammates when learning new moves, I actively engaged with my teammates and always offered support.
In addition to my athletic achievements, I have maintained a 4.21 weighted GPA and earned the distinction of being an Academic All-American. I will have a total of 6 Advanced Placement classes in my High School career. Balancing my commitments as a student-athlete, I have actively engaged in volunteer work within my community. I am part of four school clubs and I have over 50 hours of community service.
Looking towards the future, I aspire to attend a university with a track record of academic excellence, coupled with a strong pre-med program. I believe I would be a valuable addition to any D1, D2, or D3 school.
