Hello, my name is Phillip Easterling, I am 13 years old and in the 7th grade at Heard County Middle School in Franklin, GA. I have been wrestling now for 2 years. My 6th grade year, I was at 160lb weight class. I was able to continue my wrestling during the off season with USA Wrestling NOVICE, with this I was able to go to State for Georgia. There I was able to win the state championship for the 12 years old/160lb weight class.
With wrestling I have been taught so many things from teamwork, but on the flipside, it also teaches independence. Through wrestling I was also able to learn the values of working hard and the importance of setting goals and working hard to achieve those goals. Like life, wrestling teaches youth that you get out of it what you put in it. Also, that in life and in wrestling you can give time, hope, encouragement, love, support, strength, and commitment. So far with wrestling I have been able to overcome obstacles, handle my emotions, respect authority, and the importance of being a teammate!
My goals in life are to continue my wrestling to the next level, whether at high school or college. I have goals to continue my education as well. But I have not been able to settle in a direction just yet. I feel like with wrestling there is a time to be serious and a time to be funny and have a great time. I can be your leader, or I can be your clown, it just depends on the situation.
But I am always the one to be there for my teammates when they have a bad match! I will go to the hallway and make sure they are ok. We all know about the hallway; we have all been there at least once. But if I don’t make it to the hallway for them, I am always the first to be there to make them laugh again and get there my mind off of it., I will be the first to tell them what my parents tell me and that is, “Son, that match is over now take it as a lesson and learn from it! You cannot win them all, but you can make dang sure they remember you the next time. Now brush it off and let’s get back out there.”
With all the being said Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you and being part of your team one day.
