My name is Christian Stanek. I am a freshman at Xavier High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. For this current wrestling season, I am wrestling for the Xavier varsity team at 132lbs. In the pre-season rankings for 3A Iowa High School, I was ranked in the top 10. At this point in the season, my record is 17-4 (as of January 2nd, 2019). Last wrestling season, I ended the season with the record of 56-5, winning the Iowa AAU State Championship along with earning All American honors on the National Championship Iowa National Dual Team going undefeated (no forfeits). I have been a club member in the X-Men wrestling club (the Xavier feeder system) long with the Eastern Iowa Wrestling Club. I do have a profile on Track Wrestling (http://www.trackwrestling.com/membership/ViewProfile.jsp?twId=619769009).
I have also been a team member of a travelling USSSA baseball club team for the last seven years. In that time, our team has played for the championship twice (lost both times). Primarily playing catcher, then pitching, but also utility at 3rd base and short stop. I lead or was in the top 3 for most batting, pitching, catching, and fielding statistics during our last season. I plan on continuing to play baseball while I am at Xavier High School.
I have participated in competitive tackle football for the last seven years, this last season as a freshman for Xavier High School. I was a starter, playing both-ways, quarterback on offense and linebacker on defense. I was also a member on all special teams, returning punts and kicks, personal protector for punt team, and head-hunter for kick off team. I am also planning on continuing my football career while I am at Xavier High School.
Participating in track and field was new to me in the last two years. My best events were the sprints and sprint relays, 100m, 200m, and 400m. At this point, I have not decided if I will participate in track and field while at Xavier High School.
I take part in other sports, but wrestling is special. Although it is a team sport, it is very much an individual sport. I appreciate the fact that I own my performance on the mat. There are no teammates to pick up the slack or to hide behind. I have a great work ethic and will thrive in any competitive environment. I realize the importance of individual development along with the development of my teammates. I can't get better if I don't help my teammates get better.
I am looking for a college or university with great academics and a great wrestling program, preferably in the Midwest, but I am open to anywhere that is a good fit for me, and where I can be a benefit to the team. At this time, I still have not decided on a field of study.
