My goals and aspirations in life have always been built around making a name for myself and doing something that I and others can be proud of. I have been involved in sports for most of my life and from karate to wrestling I have always envisioned myself amongst the greatest in whatever sport I chose. I have now aligned my goals with my future and decided that I do have a great desire to wrestle at the collegiate level. In my freshman year of High School, I started wrestling with only a Brazilian Jui Jitsu and martial arts background. As I started going to more club and team practices I learned that wrestling was a lot more than just a sport to me. It was something that I truly found enjoyable and was something I knew I needed to pursue. To me pursuing wrestling meant getting myself to a position in which I can wrestle at the collegiate level and that is what I have put myself on the path for as well as intend to do. Wrestling is considered an individual team sport and to me, that was the most important thing. I had my team to back me up whenever I was on the mat but I couldn't blame anyone else for my mistakes and that was key for me. After the hard-fought semi-final match I lost at Junior varsity counties I had lost my momentum and any faith I had in myself. My teammates however didn't lose faith in me and encouraged me to get back on the mat. With the help of my teammates, I was able to come back and place third in the county. That was when I learned that even though wrestling is an individual sport on the mat it is most definitely a team sport off it. Overall our Junior Varsity team was 20-3 and voted most improved in the county. My personal record backed by my coaches and teammates was 23-1 against many tough opponents. One of the hardest parts about my freshman season was balancing my academics with wrestling. I achieved above-average grades in several of my honors classes and have now been able to balance out my academics successfully. I now take honors Spanish and AP US History and have achieved a balance with my academics and sports. I fully intend to wrestle at the collegiate level as well as achieve my goal of majoring in business. I am fully prepared for what lies ahead and understand that there will be many hardships I must face. I am prepared to overcome anything I must to achieve my goals and become one of the greatest.
