Hi, my name is John O'Neill and I am a wrestler at Center Moriches High School. I have been wrestling since I was seven years old, and I have always been actively involved in athletics. Most recently in my wrestling career, I placed third in Division II Section XI County Tournament, and I placed second the year before. For the past three years, I have been working in the wrestling off-season to come closer to my goal of being a Divison II Section XI champ, a goal I have been working towards this since my first varsity wrestling season. In addition to this, my next goal is to wrestle in the Division II New York State tournament. Outside of wrestling, I decided to challenge myself academically by taking Honors and AP classes. In the offseason I have taken a leadership role on my team by helping other wrestlers practice and compete in tournaments to better my team for upcoming season. Through wrestling and academics, I have learned more about myself as an athlete, as well as someone who wishes to become a successful individual. I have learned how to become a better listener and I have learned self-discipline; I have learned how to manage the constant activities of student and athlete. I believe what makes me different from other candidates is my character and leadership qualities. Every day when I wake up I remind myself of the responsibility I have to my three younger brothers. This responsibility includes doing my best in school and sports, having a positive attitude, and meeting the challenges everything I do. Whether I fail or succeed, I try to learn from the experiences in order to strengthen my character.
