I started Wrestling when I was going into the 7th grade. It was harder than any other sport I’ve ever participated in. I loved the challenge; nothing was more satisfying than winning a tournament after a hard week at practice. In my first year, I only won 9 matches and I really wanted to improve on that. So that summer, I did about 200 pushups and a one mile run each day. I felt really good going into next season. I went undefeated until it was time to qualify for the sectional tournament. I choked and lost both my matches. Going into my freshman year of high school, I didn't expect the transition between middle and high school to be that big of a difference. My freshman year was a learning experience, learning from the seniors in my weight class. That year, Indian Land High School, won the South Carolina State Championship. I knew that the seniors were leaving and I had to step up and fill that role. I decided to go to a wrestling club in the offseason and began weightlifting daily, until season started. I was about 240 lbs. and we didn't have another heavyweight in that weight class. I wrestled as a Varsity heavyweight my sophomore season. I went 27-21. I thought I had a good season in the matches I lost, and ensured I did my job staying off my back so my team could win another State Title. I was one match away from qualifying for State at heavyweight, hence in my last two years of high school, I have decided it's better for me to cut down to 220 and see what happens from there. I have a goal of being a STATE CHAMPION before I leave high school. Wrestling is my passion and I want to wrestle at the next level because I honestly don't know what I would do without wrestling.
