Austin Conaway '20 Recruiting Profile

     Seven years ago, I fell in love with the sport of wrestling. Through many years behind my competition, I picked up on the fundamentals very quickly. Ever since that time, I have competed for both club and school teams. My hope for the future is to continue my wrestling career on the next level and compete in college.  I am a three year varsity wrestler, one time state qualifier, two time regional placer, and one time conference placer.  My previous coaches have told me that I possess great leadership qualities and have a very big heart. This past season, I helped take a larger leadership role with few seniors on the team and a very large freshman class coming in. I believe I did an excellent job teaching them the values, and principles of the GWHS wrestling team on and off of the mat. Next year, I plan on continuing to share my knowledge of the sport with my teammates and learn new things from my coaches. It will be last chance to put all of the hard work over years to the test. When I am not wrestling, I enjoy writing. In college, I would like to pursue a career in sports journalism. Last year, I wrote articles about my school’s wrestling team on the school blog. I am excited to have the opportunity in the future to write about college and professional sports. To summarize, I would like to bring my hard work and leadership to the mat on the collegiate level, while being able to attend a school that can help me reach my life goal.
