Personal Statement
I am a student at Caravel Academy in Delaware. I ended my sophomore year with a GPA of 4.25, I received the Founders Honor Award each quarter since my freshman year, and my PSAT score is 1210.
I am a left-handed hitter and a right-handed thrower. My primary position is a catcher with pop time of 1.88, and my secondary position is OF with an 88 mph velo. In my freshman year, I became the starting catcher for the Caravel varsity team. I found baseball attractive because of the physical and mental skills it requires; catching allows me to use the two skills at my full capacity.
I am part of a simple, hardworking Mexican-American family; they taught me that respect, courage, determination, and love for what you do are qualities you need to succeed in life. My family and playing baseball taught me to overcome obstacles. I've learned to celebrate when I have success and to dare myself to get up, be humble, and acquire knowledge when I fail.
My nickname in my family is "El Gallo," which means rooster; this small but strong animal has the strength of persistence and exhibits considerable personal power; usually, roosters know what they want and make every effort to achieve it. The rooster's characteristics are true to me, I strive to be the best at everything. I set goals and with my attitude, competitiveness, and leadership skills, I have experienced success in the classroom and on the diamond. I aspire to exceed expectations at any level I participate in, whether in athletics or academics. I am coachable, and because of my diverse background, it comes naturally to adapt to people, situations, and changes.
I am young, and I have a lot more to learn. Therefore, I am looking for a college and a baseball team that challenges and guides me to be the best student-athlete I can be.
Thank you for your time,
Miguel Herb
