2021 Spotlight #2
2021 Spotlight
January 2021I am a very focused and disciplined athlete and student. Baseball has been my passion since I was 8 years old. Even at that age, in Canada, I took the game very seriously, so when I was 9, my parents signed me up for an established association in which I couId progress. I began that spring in house league and ended the summer being recruited to AAA (the highest level in Canada). My first year of AAA was challenging, but I loved playing with teammates that were more advanced than myself, and learning from them, as well as from our coaches. I played with my AAA team for my age-group for 5 years. The summer of 2019 was a turning point for me. We started off the season by losing every game we played, at a tournament in Pittsburgh. This frustration caused me to double my efforts, and take my training even more seriously. My teammates also buckled down after this event, and we ended the season by making it to our provincial tournament. Although we did not fare too well at the tournament, we were all very encouraged by our progress over that summer.
In addition to my home Leaside teams, I also played for a US travel team (Team New Era), for their 2019 fall league, during which we had games in New York state every weekend as well as tournaments in Michigan and Ohio. I really enjoyed the opportunity to play against many highly competitive teams. I also competed in several Perfect Game showcases in Ohio, Connecticut and Florida in 2019, Massachusetts in 2020, Florida and Alabama in 2021, as well as two All American Games tournaments, and three Best in the US showcases. I attended a PBR showcase in Florida in June 2021 and was invited to compete at their next level, but had to leave for Canada to complete our family's move. I did end up playing in the PBR Sophomore State games in October 2021, although I was injured (more seriously than I knew at the time), and could not throw, but did well as a DH. I have also become quite involved with Baseball Factory, and have attended showcases here in Florida in August 2020 and February 2021, as well as the Rookie Pre-Season All America Tournament in Florida in January 2021, and many other events in 2021.
Due to my passion and commitment to baseball, I moved to Florida to pursue my baseball career. My 2020/2021 year was very difficult due to starting high school in another country, and being separated from my father who was still in Canada. I had some struggles in school, and with personal issues, and my academics were not up to my usual standards. My spring baseball season was put on hold, due to the personal issues I was having, which have since been resolved. I did manage to play during spring and summer of 2021, for the 18U Diamonds here in Bradenton. I also attended several great events including the Baseball Factory All State Tournament in Houston in June, Baseball Factory Advanced Analytics training in Maryland in August, the USSSA Tournament in Maryland in August, and Baseball Factory All-State Tournament Labor Day weekend in Bradenton.
Since my family has been reunited, life has been a lot more stable. I am attending Braden River High School and working very hard to improve my grades. Unfortunately, I suffered an injury during a game in fall of 2021, and had to have surgery on my shoulder on Dec. 16th. I have recovered very well from this injury after many months of physical therapy, and I am working on strengthening my arm so that I can return to the throwing velocity I previously had, and of course surpass it! I used my time off from baseball to really focus on academics, and made huge improvements. I was recently invited to become a member of the National Society of High School Scholars.
In addition to baseball, I am a junior blackbelt in karate (8 years experience), and have previously played basketball and ran track and field for my school. I also enjoy fishing, which is my newly found passion.
My plans for college are to attend a great school where I can pursue my academics, and play baseball. For my major, I am quite set on becoming a psychologist, as I want to use my career to help people.
My family is extremely supportive, and love baseball as much as I do. They are as unwavering in commitment as I am, and are always happy to make sacrifices to pay for all of my baseball events and travel with me to watch me play. They are equally committed to helping me with my college baseball plans. My family has instilled in me, very good values of strong work ethic, discipline and respect, which I bring to my teams and all situations in my life.
