My name is David MacDonald and I have almost completed my grade 11 year at St. Paul's High School in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Based upon my academic performance this past school year, I received final exam exemptions in all but one course. Exemptions are awarded to students who achieve a minimum of an average of 80% in all course work and on their mid-term exams during the year.
I am a third baseman primarily, but my secondary position this season is a first baseman. One thing that separates me from other potential recruits is the fact that I am a devoted multi-sport athlete, having competed at very high levels of both hockey and baseball in the past. I played this past winter for the Varsity hockey team at my school which competes in the AAAA division of Winnipeg High School Hockey League. We achieved much success this past season, winning the City and Provincial Championship. In addition, I was personally awarded the league's Most Sportsmanlike Player award.
During 2013 baseball season, I played for the North Winnipeg Pirates which competed in Winnipeg's AAA baseball league for players aged 16-18. With this team, I was given the unique opportunity to compete in the Baseball Canada Midget National Championship in Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, where we finished 8th out of 11 teams. This was my second national championship in two years, having gone to the Baseball Canada Bantam National Championship in the summer of 2012 with my team, the Winnipeg South Chiefs, where we finished in 4th place. With both teams I won Provincial Championships.
Currently, I am a member of the 18U Winnipeg South Chiefs where I am in the starting lineup as a third baseman. Recently, I was also selected to play for the U18 Manitoba Selects Provincial team. This team will be competing in tournaments in Fargo, North Dakota and Minneapolis, Minnesota over the next few months, and will culminate with our participation in the U18 Baseball Canada Cup in Saskatchewan (Canada) in August, 2014.
I believe my multi-sport ability, my high level of academic testing (85%+ average in grades 9 and 10 at St. Paul's High School - Silver Honour Roll), as well as my experienced individual and team success in baseball, separates me from other potential recruits. Moving forward into my post-secondary education, I hope to pursue my dream of obtaining my law degree and becoming a practicing lawyer.
