2017 Game Highlights
July 2016My name is Jack Walsh, I am a 17 year old student athlete and part of the graduating class of 2018 at John McCrae Secondary School in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. I am very interested in a strong academic institution with strong school spirit and playing varsity baseball. I have now committed to attend St. Francis Xavier University and play in the Canadian Collegiate Baseball Association.
I played the 2017 summer season with the Ottawa Nepean Canadians (ONC) 18U team in the AAA Premier Baseball League of Ontario (PBLO) and in select tournaments held in the U.S. My primary positions are 3B and 2B, and my secondary positions are P and CF. I led the team with a 0.475 batting average, on base percentage of .535 and a slugging percentage of 0.729. I hit 20 extra base hits in 33 games, including 3 HR.
I was selected to be on the 40 man roster for Team Ontario as part of the Canada Summer Games selection process.
I am a strong leader, as evidenced by my selection by my school to send me to the prestigious Ontario Educational Leadership Camp for secondary athletics during July. I am also a member of the Executive of our school's Athletic Council.
I am a versatile player that can play many positions - playing many games at 3B this year as my primary, but can play many positions including SS, 2B, CF, C and P. I have had a very solid season as an underage player, achieving a level of success that has allowed me to have the most at bats during the entire season for the team, the highest number of hits, the most extra base hits, the highest OBP, the highest AVG,. which I am very proud of for an underage 16 year old player, playing against the best 17 and 18 year old players across the entire province of Ontario and against top U.S. players in tournaments held in Pennsylvania and New York and New Jersey and Massachusetts. For most of the season, I hit either 2nd, 3rd or 4th in the lineup, and I played every inning defensively, the most defensive innings of any other player on the team.
Prior to joining ONC, I played for the East Nepean Little League association, and represented Canada as we played at the Little League World Series in 2013. On the road to the LLWS, I set the Canadian Little League Championship record by hitting 9 home runs over the 8 games and was the starting Catcher. I played every inning of every game as we went through our District, Provincial, and National Championships. I hit for a very high average and finished the competitive season with 24 home runs over 30 games.
I am currently 6’2” and 180 pounds. Some of my stronger attributes as a player are my abilities as a batter to hit both for average and for power, my good bat speed and hand eye coordination, my smart decision making on the diamond, my very strong arm and solid glove. I am a strong leader and I believe that I have a hard work ethic and am a very coach-able player. I am a strong overall athlete, as I also play a high level of competitive hockey at the AAA level and have been drafted in to Major Jr by the Ottawa 67s of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and I also play on my high school baseball, volleyball, basketball, and track and field teams. I use these sports to increase my overall athletic ability and to help my performance on the diamond as a well-balanced baseball player.
I have attended a number of showcase events, and my most recent stats include:
Exit Velocity: 87mph
Infield throw: 86mph
60 yd dash: 7.1
Home to 1B: 5.09 seconds

Academically I am a very strong student, posting an 85% average in Gr. 11. I finished Grades 9 and 10 on the Honor Roll also with an 87% and 86% average respectively. This would equate to a 3.9 GPA for U.S. standards. In addition, I am on the Executive of our school’s Athletic Council, and I am part of a student team responsible for organizing our school’s athletic programs and intramural programs. I have been on Athletic Council for each of Grades 9, 10 and 11. I am proud that I was selected this year to be a Counselor at the prestigious Ontario Educational Leadership Centre and last year I was one of three students in our school invited to attend the OELC where I was taking the Secondary Athletics Leadership program for high school students across the Province of Ontario. The prior year, I was selected as the only Grade 9 student to attend our school’s external Leadership Camp held for aspiring student leaders in our school. I am a participant in our High Performance Athlete program offered by our school board, and we are the only school in the entire Ottawa Region to offer this program for dedicated student athletes.
I attended these tournaments in the U.S. in July:
July 1-3 Tri State Regionals, Mahwah, NJ
July 7-9 Liberty Bell Showcase, Philadelphia, PA
July 14-16 Summer Classic Showcase, Philadelphia, PA
July 21-23 ECTB National Championships, Allentown, PA
August 4-6 College Prep 9 inning Special Wood Bat, Boston, MA
I am very interested in attending a strong academic institution and playing varsity baseball, preferably a school with a great academic reputation, a strong school that produces future leaders, and a University with fantastic school spirit.
