Personal Statement

I've been around baseball for as long as I can remember. Growing up with a ballpark behind my house definitely carries some perks. From an early age I spent countless hours in the batting cages and at the field, practicing with friends and any team that would let me. I started playing baseball at the age of 5- tee ball for Beacon Hill Little League. As I’ve aged, my love for baseball has grown stronger and stronger. My first experience playing competitive baseball was during the summer of 2018 on the Majors All Star team. During that season we won Districts and I had the opportunity to compete in the BC Provincials. Even though we got slaughtered, the excitement that came from playing at this level is something I will never forget. After the season was over, I knew I needed a future with baseball.

I started pursuing baseball more seriously during my last year of Little League, making future aspirations and dreams to play at the college level. I chose to go to Lambrick Park Secondary School (LPSS), a school with a special baseball academy - the only one of its kind on all of Vancouver Island. Even though LPSS is two buses away from my house, I knew this was going to be the right decision. My experience and training in the academy has given me the opportunity to play at the premier level on the Victoria Mariners Travel team, where I am a starting pitcher. Education has always been really important to me and my family. Both my parents are teachers and college has always been my plan. I aspire to play baseball in college while I major in business/management.

Being a team player and having a friendly personality has really helped me throughout my baseball career. Neither of my parents have athletic backgrounds so for me to get better at the game I have had to rely on my own initiative to make connections with teams and find baseball opportunities. I have met so many important friends and coaches just by always being motivated and friendly at the ballpark, some of whom I still train with to this day.

From 2019-2020 I had a life-changing experience to go with my family on sabbatical to Portugal. Because baseball is just an emerging sport in Portugal and there aren’t youth leagues, I had the opportunity to join the Lisbon Capitals men’s baseball team. I made plenty of new friends, experienced a new culture, and learned how to speak a new language. This experience made me love traveling and seeing new parts of the world, so the chance to live in a new place for college really excites me. I will push myself and work as hard as I can to make my dreams a reality and to enjoy the best sport there is.
