Personal Statement
My name is Mitchell Walters, I am 15 years old and a Sophomore (Class of 2023) at Shepherd High School. My dream and my goal is to play college baseball, after graduating from high school. I truly love the game of baseball. I love the grind of practices; the offseason work needed to keep excelling; and obviously, the games themselves. I was raised with the mindset of outworking and outhustling everyone else and have come to embrace it. I’m not afraid to work!
I have played travel ball with the Mt. Pleasant Drillers organization for the past four years and have enjoyed a lot of success. I have always pitched and then I’ve played a lot of other positions. Currently I am the starting shortstop on my high school baseball team. Previously I've played a lot of third base and centerfield, when I wasn’t pitching. I truly believe I can play most any position and play it at a high level.
In terms of pitching, I feel like I have a really good grasp of how to pitch. I have good control, move the ball in and out and up and down and change speeds effectively. My fastball is currently in the 75 mph range and I throw a circle change and a slider. I’ll also occasionally drop down and throw a side arm fastball, just to give the batters a little different arm slot look.
I consider myself a good all-around hitter, with the ability to hit with extra base power or lay down a bunt and use my speed (6.8 second 60) to get on base. I rarely strike out and walk my fair share, so I’ve developed into a good leadoff hitter on my current Drillers team. I am an aggressive baserunner, always looking for the opportunity to get that extra base.
In the classroom I also do pretty well with my 3.28 GPA, and I'm also a member of are schools student council.
