Personal Statement
I was influenced to start playing baseball when I was just four years old after seeing a group of kids playing T-ball at the school close to my house. I was so interested in the sport that my mom signed me up for baseball as soon as I was old enough to play in our community recreation league. I’ve been playing baseball since the age of five, with my love of the sport growing each year.
My dad taught me how to play baseball, spending a lot of time with me catching, batting and throwing the ball. The biggest obstacle I have had to endure was when my dad passed away. I was just nine years old. I think of him every time I play baseball, feeling as if he is with me, encouraging and pushing me to do better. Because of this, I’m driven to become a better player, teammate, leader and person. My mom has always told me that what has happened is “a reason to succeed, not an excuse to fail.”
My academic goals are to learn and succeed. I’m a freshman in high school, taking all honors classes because my goal is to achieve a high grade point average and to receive a high school diploma with honors. In regards to college, I would like to attend one which is considered academically strong, has a good baseball team, a variety of activities, and a diverse student body. I’m considering majoring in marine biology, but have not made a definite decision yet.
The personal characteristics I possess include being honest, intelligent, outgoing, confident, and a good sense of humor. Through playing baseball I’ve learned that I’m competitive, a good leader, a motivator, and have a desire to better myself and my baseball skills through hard work and practice.
