My name is Luke O'Neill and I'm a 2023 high school baseball player. My primary position is shortstop although I have the ability to play all infield and outfield positions.
Currently, I play for the DFW Stix Prospects Black team and Keller High School Varsity team in District 4-6A. While on varsity, our team has gone to the State Championship (June 2021, State Finalist) and the Region Finals (June 2022, losing to the State Champions). I practice every day against some of the best in the area and state which has only made me a better baseball player, and more hungry. Our district has produced the last five Texas 6A state champions which means I have to compete every single day. This level of competition drives me to practice hard and always do my best.
I am an athlete and competitor through and through. I have been playing baseball since I was four years old (really two years old in my backyard). I also played competitive/select basketball through 8th Grade and middle school football. I am a very versatile baseball player that can be put at any position in the infield and/or outfield and played catcher until 13U. I love being involved in every play on the field. Baseball is my passion.
At SS, I have great footwork and a highly accurate arm and excellent, smooth ball transfer skills to make the tag and double plays needed at MIF. I've played a lot of 2B as well which makes me a better infielder and teammate during those key plays. I can also play outfield with a strong arm to make the throw and am continuing to develop as a RHP. As I continue to gain weight and get stronger, my velocity will only increase. I have a very smooth throwing motion and good arm mechanics. I can also hit and run. I am able to jump on a first pitch or go deep into a count, see pitches and get on base. I have run the 60-yard dash several times under 7.0 and continue to train to work on my speed. I'm a fierce competitor, champion for my teammates and leader both on and off the field. Don't mistake my calm, more quiet nature for not being competitive. I have great baseball instincts and am an A/high B student with great character.
As I enter my Senior year of High School, I am hoping to play baseball in college while pursuing a business degree. I'm open to all levels (smaller D1 - Junior College). I'm looking for that right opportunity and fit so that I can continue to contribute with my positive, winning attitude, skills and perseverance as I continue to grow and develop as a player. My parents have helped me stay grounded and focused on achieving my goals academically, athletically and as an individual. My athletic and academic performance would not be possible without their support. An integral part of my personal growth has also been my faith and am grateful for the natural ability I was given to pursue my goals. Away from the field, on the few breaks I have, I enjoy skiing, hunting, golfing, fishing, going to the beach and mountains and visiting MLB ballparks. I take my workouts, nutrition and grades very seriously. I'm a quick-learner, but know that it takes time and reps to continue to develop. I'm looking forward to that next opportunity!
