Personal Statement

I have been playing baseball for as long as I can remember. I played Rugby, Basketball, and Football through middle school, but in early 2024 I decided to focus on baseball. I have had goals of making Varsity as a freshman in high school and this is something I have been working toward since 8th grade. November 2023 was when my focus on being the best I can be in baseball became clear. I have loved the game for as long as I know and it has always been something my family has supported me in, including my brothers. In September 2023 I was named to represent Team New Zealand in the U15 WBSC Oceanic Qualifiers in Guam. I travelled to Auckland alone, met up with the team and a few days later was in Guam preparing to start on the mound in my first international fixture. It was an amazing experience, learning about the passion and desire of baseball, the New Zealand culture and making friends whom I hope to share many more experiences with in the future. We lost the series 2-1, but what I found on that campaign was more than wins and losses, it was a confidence and a focus on wanting to play the highest level of baseball I could.

I have been working hard as a freshman, to graduate with a 3.7 GPA. This, combined with a solid SAT score, will allow me to attend almost whatever university I make a connection with through this process. Right now, my interests are Construction and Sports Sciences, which I am currently getting experience in with my classes at school, Tech Theater, and Kinesiology.

The journey for me has been short, but there have been learning moments along the way. My family's focus on a balance between athletics and academics has made me who I am today, but it has also had me sit on the bench at times to understand the importance of commitment and focus. In the last 12 months, I have grown close to 8" and athletically this was a challenge for my speed and agility, something I have been working hard on recently.

I am focused on being better every day. Learning something from every coach along the way is something I take pride in. I have great relationships with teammates and coaches. I love to win, but more importantly, winning the right way. Hard work, preparation, and focus sum me up.

  • Cullen Scott is a 2028 3B/RHP with a 6-2 195 lb. frame from Melissa, TX who attends Melissa. Very nice athletic build with lots of present strength for his age. Primary third baseman on defense with lots of potential on the mound as well. 7.52 runner in the sixty. Primary third baseman, corner actions and range, outstanding arm strength for the class, long winding arm action, hands work well out front with clean funnels, dropped slot when needed. Right-handed pitcher, stretch only, strong lower half, short stride, repeats a simple motion well, riding four seam up to 90-mph, curveball has really improved over the last year withy sharp shape, some light action to the change, substantial velocity for his class and age with nothing but time to continue improving and plenty of physicality there already, has made massive strides over the course of a year. Right-handed hitter, high hands and high back elbow set, will lean into contact at times, strides out, double toe tap trigger, can impact to pull well with power projection there, swing has improved with a better bat path and more barrel ability. Good student. Named to the PG Sunshine Southeast Showcase Top Prospect List.

  • Cullen Scott is a 2028 3B/RHP/SS with a 6-2 185 lb. frame from Melissa, TX who attends Melissa. Features a wiry/projectable build. In the INF, showed solid yet developing actions. Comfortable mover on the dirt, showing light feet but avg. quickness. Actions played notably well to the backhand side. Some stiffness to the transfer but shows adv. arm strength across using a shorter arm action. At the plate, sits in a medium base and shows more of a simple swing operation. Shorter stride with smaller takeback of the hands. Swing path works more direct at entry and levels out into contact. Avg. bat speed for his level. More LD oriented with flashes of some jump off the barrel. At times was stuck onto backside and didn't clear hips fully. Quality barrel accuracy. On the mound, he arm strength/speed stood out. Relatively simple delivery. Exclusive from the stretch using a hip high knee lift with minimal drop in driveleg. Shorter stride that lands slightly closed at finish. Arm action showed more shorter/medium path in the back that worked up to a normal 3/4 slot. FB came out with some sneaky firmness in the mid 80s, T86 exhibiting standard 4S shape. Flashed a mid 70s CB during his outing that had quality depth that he could land for strikes. At times showed the tendency of a late arm and some early torso leakage but overall pretty repeatable. Named to the High School All-State Select Championship Top Prospect List.

  • Hitting Room to Fill Narrow Stance High hands at load Good Rhythm in swing Rotational Lower Half Swings with intent Uses all fields On the barrel consistently Pitching Well balanced Works over front side well Medium Leg Lift Delivery 3/4 Arm slot Ball comes out quickly Loose Shoulder Throws easy Out of hand clean Tight Spin Can land offspeed early in count Works ahead of hitters Around the plate with all pitches Infield 3/4 Arm slot Projectable Arm Strength Progression Tips Right-Handed Pitcher -Lanky and athletic frame, stretch only with belt high lift and higher three-quarters release with lower effort operation. -Tons of feel to spin the upper 60's curveball right now with good depth and spin. Keep ripping this with intent - it will only get better with time. -Up to 83-mph but more strikes in the 77-79 range right now. Find your cruising speed where you can simultaneously fill the zone and compete with the fastball. Infield -Two handed fundamental funnel, steeper arm path with higher effort release. -Stay within yourself on throws... you have the natural arm strength to not have to max effort for healthy throws that will carry across the diamond. -Longer process getting the ball out. Work on shortening the arm action, quickening transfer and creating good angles. Right-Handed Hitter -Narrow base with high hand set, small stride into contact with some present rhythm. -Can impact when leveraged and extended out front. -Developing consistent bat path to contact right now. -Present bat speed with feel for the barrel. Cullen, you have a bright future in the game. Thanks for coming to our event and showcasing what you can do - we look forward to monitoring your progress. Named to the Top Prospect List.
