Personal Statement
Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Matt Peterson. I am a senior at Pullman High School in Pullman, Washington. I will be graduating from high school in June 2013. I would like to go to college to further my education and play college baseball. I am 6' 6" and weigh 210 pounds. I am a three sport athlete at my high school. I play football, basketball and baseball.
My true passion is baseball. I have been a starter on my high school varsity baseball team since my freshman year. In the summer I play AAA Legion Baseball on the Pullman Patriots. On the weekends in the fall, I play on the Baseball Northwest Washington East 2013 Fall Scout team.
As a sophomore, I was selected All-League 1st Team for my play at first base in the Great Northern League. My junior year I was also selected to the All-League 1st Team in the Great Northern League for my accomplishments as a pitcher. During my sophomore year my batting average was over .400 and I had 41 runs batted in and led my team in triples. During my junior season my earned run average was 1.2. I was also voted as our team co-captain my junior year. I received the honor of Prep Athlete of the Week during my junior year following a no hitter against league opponent, Medical Lake.
I am a good student with a 3.5 grade point average and take my classes seriously. I work hard on my school work and practice good time management. I was selected All-League 1st Team All-Academic in basketball and baseball my junior year (3.8-4.0) and in football and basketball my senior year. I recently was informed that I was selected as the upcoming Student of the Month for March of 2013 for Pullman High School.
Playing college baseball is something I want to do. Although I play 3 sports in high school and summer/fall baseball, I am constantly working on my baseball skills. I believe I have the size, speed, strength and skill to play baseball at a competitive, college level. And given the opportunity to focus on one sport in college, I believe it would give me the opportunity to excel.
I work hard and continue to develop my strength, speed, agility and to refine my baseball skills. I consider myself a hard worker, a team player and would be a valuable asset to your team.
