Personal Statement
When I was in 1st grade and only 7 years old, I played my first basketball game in a church league. My dad was a basketball player, and I wanted to be just like him. As the years went by, I played football, baseball, and soccer in addition to playing basketball. However, my love of the game of basketball grew above all the others. As a 7th grader I made the decision to focus on the sport and refine and perfect my skills. After making the 8th grade basketball team, I knew my dreams of being a high school player were on the horizon.
One of my greatest athletic accomplishments is making the varsity basketball team as a freshman in high school. As a sophmore, I started on the varsity team as a shooting guard. I was part of a team that made it to the district tournament for the first time in school history. My coach saw me as a leader, and as we closed out our season he prepared me to be the leader for the 2019-2020 season. I have already had the opportunity to hone these leadership skills in summer tournaments with both my high school team and my summer competitive team. For the past two years I have tried out, made, and started for the Ball for Life AAU summer basketball team. I work out with a strength and conditioning coach three times per week and a shooting coach two times per week. In addition to private coaches, I attend practices for both of the teams in which I play and work to shoot 700 shots several times per week. When I am not working out or at practice, I work for my dad's real estate appraisal company and mow residential and commercial properties.
I am a natural leader, strong in character, and a good student. I am proactive in my approach to sports and academics, working hard to be the best I can be at both. I am looking forward to becoming a part of a college family where I can grow as a person and as a player.
