My official golf journey started only a few years ago, around age 13, when I started playing golf with set of hand me down clubs. I played, but never kept score. My freshman year of high school, I decided to play on the golf team. This was the first time I played competitively, and now had to keep score. I was shooting in the high 80’s to low 90’s, and the game grew on me. After my freshman season, I was able to upgrade my clubs to a "new to me" set. They were not fit to me, but were much better than what I had been playing with. My sophomore year I was named Captain of the golf team, and was also awarded Most Valuable Player at the end of the season. I broke 80 for the first time, and was scoring in the mid 70’s. That summer I set my sights on breaking 70 and played in some Connecticut PGA Junior tournaments.
The Covid pandemic cancelled my junior season, but I actually played more golf than if we had a season. In April 2020, I shot a 70, then on May 16, 2020, I broke 70 for the first time, shooting a 69. I have since broken 70 seven times, with my lowest score being a 64. In the summer of 2020, I gained more competitive experience by playing in PGA Junior tournaments, as well as tournaments through the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour. I also tackled Bethpage Black playing from the tips, and despite two terrible holes, shot an 88. I had accomplished everything to this point without lessons.
In November 2020, I enrolled in a program for students who plan to play collegiate golf, and is taught by a PGA professional. Following the first session, I have already improved my swing. My average carry for the driver is 290 yards, and my average club head speed is 117 MPH.
I feel that with my drive to succeed, and with your guidance, and training, I can become a player that will help your team win. I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you for your consideration.
