Updated on April 11, 2022: This fall, I will be attending Stevens Institute of Technology
Hello, my name is Chris Lubas. I am a senior and an honors student at West Morris Mendham High School in Mendham, New Jersey. I'm in a few IB Classes and I am in my eighth year of Mandarin Chinese. I will be the captain of the varsity golf team in the spring of 2022. I am very involved in my church's youth group. My area of interest for college is International Business.
On October 30 and 31, I competed in a two-day Hurricane Junior Golf Tour event and carded 76 and 77 (+5 and +6). I have never had a golf coach, but I feel confident that I have the skills and the focus to excel at college both in the class and on the course. A coach would provide me with the direction on what I need to focus on in my game to help me fine-tune my skills to contribute to a team's success.
Golf has always been an exciting sport to me. Even being on a team, competing against other teams, players are still battling the golf course and striving for personal best. I'm always working towards continuous improvement so I can compete and win.
I expressed interest in golf at around four when my father bought me my first golf club set. Ever since then, my passion has only increased. While living in CT, I took lessons from the First Tee Program and played on a First Tee team. I competed in a few US Kids' Golf matches at the age of six and seven. I played a lot of golf. I played a lot of premier soccer, and I played a lot of basketball for many years. I love sports, and I knew I wanted to keep golfing.
In 2017, I began competing in the New Jersey JR PGA events. Each year, I took on more and more matches. In 2020, as a result of the pandemic, spring high school sports were canceled. I was eager to compete, having missed my sophomore high school matches. That summer, I participated in eight tournaments. In four of the matches, I placed in the top twenty.
During my freshman year of high school, I persevered to earn a varsity spot and was the only freshman on the team. I helped Mendham reach a 12-4 season record, with six of my scorecards contributing to the 12 wins. As a result, I earned the "Rookie of the Year" award. Playing golf with my friends and family is one of my favorite pastimes.
Golf allows me to develop team-building skills, personal development skills, and leadership skills that transfer into other activities such as volunteering and the work I'm involved in with my church's youth group.
In the summer of 2021, I competed in seven tournaments (NJ Junior PGA and NJ Hurricane) after returning from a week (with my church youth group) of mission trip work in Kentucky. Also, I work as a bag room attendant and Caddy at Somerset Hills Country Club in Bernardsville, NJ.
Playing golf and competing in college has been a goal of mine for a long time, and it is a goal I continue to work to achieve. I am passionate about the game of golf.
I appreciate your consideration.
