Hello! My soccer journey began when I was four years old in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. My first memories include playing barefoot in a dirt patch with some community friends. I moved to the States in the summer of 2008 and have continued to play.
I am known to be a team player and encourage my teammates throughout the game; I want them to improve and also want to improve myself. These traits can be seen in my earning of the 2018 UVA Soccer Camp of Champions Most-Improved Award and the 2019 UVA Soccer Camp of Champions Character Award. I would be a great addition to any team because of the work ethic I contribute and the sense of togetherness I provide. On top of theses, I have always had great endurance; this is most likely a result of being born and living in the very high altitudes of the Great Rift Valley on the Horn of Africa. This has allowed me to work hard for long periods of time and to have a higher athleticism than many other individuals; while others may be getting tired in the 2nd half, I still have the energy to keep attacking.
Education has always been the top priority and I have always worked hard to do well in school. In college, I hope to pursue a degree in Exercise Science. I have always been fascinated by the human body, it's functions, and have a desire to learn more. Playing soccer has only furthered my interest in this field and is one of the many reasons why I love the sport.
My love of the game also stems from the exhilaration of playing: the rush of scoring a goal, the camaraderie between teammates, and sharing experiences as a team. In addition, I feel a sense of belonging when I play soccer, as if this is what I'm suppose to do. This cultivates a deep desire in me to get better. Most people don't like meeting individuals who are better than them; I, however, love meeting these individuals because they further my motivation to improve.
I am excited for the new opportunities that lay ahead and hope to continue playing soccer in this new stage of life! Thank you for taking the time to read this!
Sincerely,
Abenezer
