Personal Statement
Hi, I'm Maximus. What sets me apart from the vast majority of other incredibly talented scholar-athletes? Discipline. I have been competing at the Sectional level since my sophomore year and am nearing Junior National qualifications, and throughout my 5 years of competition, I've learned that nothing is more crucial than having a disciplined mindset. Whether it be in the pool or in the classroom, I put forth my utmost effort to ensure that I'm displaying my athletic and academic prowess to the best of my abilities. Regardless of how many hours a paper may take, or how badly I wanna quit during an absurdly hard test-set, I make it my #1 priority to put aside my urge to give in or quit and force myself to finish and to finish strong. As my coach says, "the clock doesn't care how bad it hurts," so why should I?
I consider my team to be a family, and as a family, we constantly push each other to be the best athletes we can be, during practice, meets, and even at home. The most valuable aspect of being on a team is that everyone contributes something significant, such as a unique perspective, tips for technique, or even just a positive attitude to enhance team morale, and my goal is to bring that to whatever university team I compete with.
