Volleyball helped me discover my athletic side and opened up a whole new world of sports that I had never seen before. I started playing volleyball in 2017 after trying many other sports. In recreational league, I learned my basic foundations, footwork, and a sense of the game that have helped me progress to where I am today. I played the recreational league for 5 seasons before trying out and playing on Western Loudoun Volleyball Club, where I started to get more competitive with the sport. After playing at a higher level, I started to understand my natural talent that elevated my level of play above everyone else's. When I first learned the approach footwork, my vertical measured 26 inches in 2019. For my age group, a vertical that high made my value on the team stand out. My coach assigned me middle for the two years that I played with the club and through training and conditioning, my vertical had increased by 5 inches by the end of the season. In addition, I learned great teamwork and communication skills that have only improved to this day. After seeing this growth within myself, I decided that I wanted to take it to the next level. In 2021, I tried out for St. James 15U. I knew with my dedication to the sport and my hard work ethic, I could make the team. Playing at the open level that season, my knowledge of the game and strength had continued to skyrocket due to my conditioning and workouts. I currently have a GPA of 3.3 and am enrolled in two IB classes and plan to take the SAT this spring.
My goal for this season is to progress my knowledge of the game, become more crafty while attacking at the net, and to increase my vertical jump by at least 2 inches. Playing a year up is going to be difficult but I want to take my play to the next level and I am ready to put in the effort to do so. This sport means a lot to me and any opportunity to get touches on the ball I take. I look forward to playing at the collegiate level because It has inspired me to become a stronger athlete and a better teammate.
