Hi! I am Larissa Murphy, I am a 2028 graduate from Highland High School. I mainly pitch, but I am also a middle infielder, left and center fielder! I am very versatile and work hard to be the best. Ever since I was an 8-year-old girl, as soon as I stepped on the field, I knew I wanted softball to be my whole life. Softball has given me a purpose, a reason to push myself over the limit. The exhilaration of hitting your first home run, the thrill of cheering so loud, you lose your voice. There is no way to replicate that feeling. Softball is also a getaway for me. Stepping on to a field, it instantly washes out everything going on in my life. My main focus becomes how I play, and how I can support my team. I am very loud and cheer for my team, even in the toughest of times in games. I am always willing to be the one to show up with energy and am always excited to be there.
Softball isn’t just a physical sport, it is also mental. Every practice and game I have to remember that mistakes come with the sport. Having one bad at bat will not lose the game. Having a fielding error will not put me on the bench. In these situations, I chose to be the better me. I chose to let it roll off my shoulders. I come back at my next at-bat with a clear mind. I come back pitching with a mind that is reset. In this lifestyle you have to have the resilience and ability to persevere. I believe this is what makes me a tough player. I don’t hold on to all the “wrongs,” and instead I come back reset. This is hard to do, but in order to be the best, you have to beat the best; your mind. You have to play your game, as much as playing the game with your teammates.
I would do anything to take my travel ball and high school career to the next level. Softball isn’t just a sport to me, it’s everything I have strived for. Ever since that 8-year-old stepped on that field, she knew she wanted to play at the collegiate level. Here today, that is still my dream, and I will push to achieve playing at the collegiate level.
