Personal Statement

I know I'm short - but I have a tall chip on my shoulder. Because of my size, coaches throughout my career have mistakenly overlooked my tenacity, work ethic, team spirit and success on the mound. By the end of my freshman season, playing for the varsity squad, I had the best pitching stats on the team and started the opening round of the state playoffs in Iowa's highest division.

Ditto my sophomore season, pitching shutout ball through the first six innings of the first round playoff game against a power hitting team. I ended the season second in the conference in strikeouts, averaging well over 1k per inning.

I am homeschooled and love it because I believe it best prepares me for the independence and rigors of college academics. It also gives me the freedom to get to the gym to workout. I train year round on my pitching, going to the gym 3 times a week just to throw. Additionally, I go another 3 days a week to the YMCA to work through a power lifting regimen in order to increase my core strength to gain foot speed, pitching velocity, and to decrease the possibility of injuries.

I'm excited to see where the next two seasons take me and look forward to meeting my future college coach and team!

Awards and Activities

  • AwardsI have been home-schooled all of my life and have really enjoyed and profited from the "tutoring" of my mother who has a degree in education and is a licensed substitute teacher in my hometown. I believe that this educational environment has given me the independent study skills, maturity and discipline necessary to succeed in college.
  • ActivitiesSpending time with my family and friends, serving on missions trips to Oaxaca, Mexico where I have lived and worked with underprivileged people, babysitting, and serving in my church in various ways.
