Haley Gerber Pitc...I absolutely love playing softball. My goal is to play for a college team with high academic standards. Each winter I work on softball five-six times per week (3-4 days pitching; 2-3 days hitting and fielding; 2-3 days core, strength, speed, and agility training). I would like to play on a team with girls who are willing to work as hard as I do. I have a 95 average in High School, take three IB courses, and have been on High Honor Roll every marking period since the start of 6th grade, and am in three Honor Societies (National, American Sign Language, and Italian).
I have been paying softball for 9 years (year-round for 6, and travel for 4) and play for the Long Island Bandits 18U Elite Travel Team (Bernie Halpin). I am a starting pitcher and play second base, shortstop, and outfield when not pitching. I do not overpower hitters with my pitching but I have tight spin, decent movement, and have pitched well in many tournament games (receiving a total of 7 tournament game MVP Awards as voted from competitors; 5 for pitching and 2 for hitting/fielding). I get weekly private lessons (past 6 years) from a top pitching coach who has taught me to throw Fastball, Change-up, Drop ball, Peel Screw, Curve, Back-door Curve, and Rise. I am a good contact hitter and have added power over the past two-three years, hitting many doubles and deep balls. I have become consistent in getting bunts down to move runners, field the mound well, have good range at 2B, can slide over to SS, and also play RF. I am focusing on staying low through the throw, getting rid of the ball quickly, and I have always had a strong arm.
I am fully dedicated to improving my skills and like to think that I make my teammates better by how hard I work. I rarely, if ever, miss a game or practice and have been praised by coaches as being an outstanding teammate. I want to attend a college that prides itself in academics and shares in these same values of working hard both on and off the field.
