Personal Statement
My name is Lillie Hansen, I'm from Burgaw, NC, where I play RH pitcher, outfielder and first baseman for my Pender Patriot high school team. For travel ball, I start at Right or Left field for EC Bullets Gerovac, typically pitching in relief to allow Sr's more exposure. My coaches often comment on my hustle both on and off the field. I have a wide range of fielding capabilities and can play most positions, I really enjoy right field when not pitching, where you will find me fielding or backing up 1st base on just about every play! I have very good arm strength, which I find makes a better fit in the outfield today when not pitching.
Outside of travel or school ball, I run Cross Country and track, and work with a personal trainer to build strength, speed and endurance. I have current use Rita Lynn Gilman and Erin Dixson (UNCW) for pitching coaches and Monica Armendarez as my batting coach! I really enjoy being part of the Pender High JROTC Raiders, which has taught me to have a strong mental mindset, a physically fit body, a strong will and determination, and above all, heart. Also, I really enjoy going to Softball Factory All-American and All-Region events, I've met some amazing people like Jennie Finch, Kelly Barnhill and Sydney Littlejohn, to name a few, but really enjoy meeting and playing with new girls and coaches! Coach Ty always says try to get 1% better every day, I try to!
I am a very vocal player on the field and in the dugout, some might say I'm the loudest on the team, but I think I'm just a little like Sis Bates! I offer words of encouragement to my teammates and try to be uplifting and optimistic to them as well. I love to have fun while playing, and I work hard to never be a "Debbie Downer" or pessimistic toward my teammates or coaches, and if we make a mistake I try to pick my teammates up.
Away from athletics I have many other interests and activities. I am a Jr member of Burgaw Baptist Church, where I sing in the adult choir and actively participate in our youth group. I have been active in 4-H since I was 5, my mom is a leader and former agent, I've won awards for public speaking, pork cookery and other activities and am currently serving as a District Officer. I've also been very competitive at Science Olympiad, Seaperch (underwater robotics), and our FIRST Robotics team 6214 PHEnix!
I have to thank my mom and dad for helping me get all of these activities done, but I really enjoy the many things I get to do. For college, I think I want to study Astronomy, but I kinda like biology when I attended Duke Tips camps in the past.
