“No one works harder than Maren”
The above statement was a direct quote from my high school coach as he awarded me the Anderson HS Varsity “2014 Most Improved Player”. In fact, that is the same thing you will hear from my teachers, my trainers, my co-workers and teammates. I pride myself on working hard and being the best I can be at school, my job and softball. I always want to be a positive example to my peers and teammates and am a natural leader.
I work out at DNA Sports Center Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday for two hours each day. I train the first hour at the Parisi Speed Training and the second hour in weight training. I am always working to get better, faster and stronger. On Mondays I attend my weekly hitting instruction and work on my swing. I play softball during spring, summer and fall seasons and do extra conditioning in the winter. Training and working out have become a big part of my life.
During the school year I participate in the mixed chorus at Anderson High School which is an invitation only, weighted High School course. It requires a great deal of time and after school commitment and offers me an additional competitive outlet. I also take CP English, Math and Science courses. I am vice-president of Key Club, participate in student council and am a member of the Spanish National Honor Society.
My softball game includes solid, dependable defense with a strong arm and an advanced understanding of where I need to be and what I need to be doing on the field. I can play multiple positions in addition to the outfield including 1st and 2nd base. During my freshman year on the JV team I was the starting 2nd baseman and part time shortstop despite being a left-handed thrower.
I am a strong contact hitter who hits line drives and consistently puts the ball in play. I struck out only 2 times in 53 at bats as a varsity starter during my sophomore year in a tough 1A conference.
While my High School team lacked the elite pitching of the other schools in our league, my team and I still fought hard every game and gave our best effort. I would be happy to be a part of a rebuilding program or an established program that already has a strong tradition. I am happy to EARN everything I get I just need the opportunity.
No one works harder than me.
