My first year playing club softball was what taught me the most about myself and the game. It was a big challenge, but it ended in success. I started out almost not making the team and playing very little, to becoming a starting left fielder, to ending the season as a starting 1st baseman and batting in the 3, 4, or 5 spot. Through this experience, I learned to persevere through anything life can throw at me. I learned that if I work hard enough it's possible to accomplish anything and I'm a lot stronger than I thought I was. I also now know that my work will never be done, there is always room for improvement. The way I see it, there will always be someone who works harder than me, so I have to keep working, keep pushing, keep striving to work harder than everyone around me. That's my motivation, I know that someone out there is putting in more work than me and so I have to keep up. I want to be best that I can be and to do that I have to work harder than the person that I was yesterday.
As an athlete as well as, as a student I enjoy to be challenged. I don't like to be the best person on a team because then you have no one to look up to or to strive to be better than. I like the friendly competition that is vying for the position you want over your teammate who wants it just as bad. This is what makes me the best player I can be. In the classroom, I look for every opportunity to be challenged. As a freshman, I chose to take the only AP class offered to us as well as an accelerated math course. I ended the year with a 4.13 weighted GPA and plan on continuing to keep my GPA above average the rest of my high school career. The next step being taking two AP classes next year. I am not afraid of challenges and like to push myself in both academic and athletic environments.
