My name is Abbie Buckner and I have always dreamed about playing softball in college. I am from the Gibbs community but I now live in Dandridge, Tennessee and I will graduate from Lakeway Christain Academy. I am right-handed and I bat Right, I am a utility player but I prefer to play in the middle infield and outfield, I also pitch when needed. I have never had any experience in pitching. After my freshman covid year, and sophomore year I pitched my team to third in the state. I’m very passionate when it comes to learning new positions and I love to achieve goals. As much as I love sports my academics are just as important. I take a great deal of pride in everything I do and while I have had some serious setbacks it’s making me mentally, emotionally, and physically stronger every day. I tore my ACL in the fall of my 8th-grade year and I look at everything from a different perspective. While I’ve been recovering it’s allowed me to travel to watch several college and high school games. I’ve also traveled to tournaments with my club team. My goals for next season are to prepare myself for college ball physically and mentally. One thing that I love about softball is that it’s a great platform and it creates leadership and work ethic. My goal in college is to use softball as a platform to educate athletes on type one diabetes for it is an everyday hardship that I face, and I want to bring awareness to young people.
