Softball has been a central part of my life since I was 5 years old. As I progressed through each level of competition, I eventually earned a spot on the 14U Bombers Gold National team. The journey through travel ball allowed me to meet passionate players from across the country, helping me come out of my shell and gain confidence. This newfound confidence extended beyond sports, enabling me to take on leadership roles such as Vice President of the National Junior Honor Society.
Recognizing the importance of balance, I learned to speak up when I needed a break. Taking three months off between 8th and 9th grade to play volleyball and experience life as a “normal” kid was a challenging decision, but it ultimately strengthened me mentally—an essential aspect of success in both softball and life. Returning to the sport for the Fall season of my freshman year, I joined TX Bombers STX Gold Saenz 16U as a catcher and outfielder.
My first year of high school varsity softball was a milestone I eagerly anticipated. However, just before district play, I fractured my right third metacarpal. This humbling six-week recovery period taught me to support my team in other ways, from warming up pitchers in the bullpen to cheering from the dugout. My resilience paid off as I was cleared to play just in time for the last district game, contributing to our team’s second-place district finish and bi-district victory. Although we narrowly lost in the area playoffs, the experience and camaraderie with my teammates were invaluable.
Summer was an experience. Our team demonstrated its potential by placing third in the Texas State Southwest Regional Championships Elite 16/18U Division and Champions of the Diamond in the Rough Showcase and Tournament in Kerrville, TX. We made it to Championship Sunday in the Colorado Sparkler 16U Division and placed 4th in the TCS Southwest Summer Nationals Gold Bracket. It was hard saying goodbye to my teammates who are moving up to 18U.
Personally, I am focused on improving my batting technique and gaining more confidence in throwing out runners. Softball is not just a path to scholarships and further education; it is also a means of developing essential skills such as time management, teamwork, communication, and leadership, all of which will serve me well in pursuing a business degree and career.
