November 2023My name is Blair Powers, and I am in the class of 2025. I started playing in competitive tournaments the summer going into my sophomore year. I was always a multisport athlete, which included lettering in varsity soccer and basketball. As a junior, I have decided to only play golf and focus on this sport. It wasn't until my sophomore year that I started to really dedicate time to golf and practice every day. Since then, I have been very passionate about wanting to compete at the next level. Ever since playing in tournaments and high school matches, I realized that I love the competitive part of this sport, and having the experience to meet new people.
I believe I have a very good work ethic. Not only do I strive to be my best on the golf course when practicing and playing, but I believe I am a hard-working student, too. I am in all honors classes, and I have maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout high school. Additionally, I am on the high honor roll, and I was inducted into the National Honor Society my Sophomore year.
I have achieved all-conference honors my first three years of high school. As a high school junior this fall, my average was 76. The high school 1-day tournaments I won this year include, shooting a 74(+2) at Brookhill Golf Course, 73(+1) at the University of Illinois Blue Course, and a 74(+2) at the Conference meet at Mowequa Golf Course. I won the IHSA Class 2A Rantoul Regional by shooting a 70 (-2) at Willow Pond Golf Course. I ended up placing second at the Class 2A Normal Sectional at Ironwood Golf Course by shooting a 74(+2). At the Girls Class 2A IHSA State at Hickory Point in Decatur, I shot 81(+9) and 79(+7) and tied for 37th overall. I also placed 3rd in the Optimist Jr Illinois District qualifier, and I qualified to play in the Optimist International Junior Golf Championship.
My ambition is to find a school where I will be challenged academically and with the game of golf. Since my freshman year, I have dreamed of playing at the collegiate level with the best girls in the world. I am still undecided on my major in college.
