My name is Ryliann Bednar and I am an 11th grader at Pullman High School in Pullman, Washington. I was introduced to golf at a very young age, as my dad is the Superintendent at Palouse Ridge here in Pullman. I grew up on the golf course mostly riding around in golf carts and during the summertime doing a couple of youth tournaments and junior golf camps, that's where I learned the basics of golf. And it wasn't until the summer of 2020 that I really started to find my love for the game. I started playing on my high school varsity team in the ninth grade and competitively in 2021 when I first joined Washington Junior Golf Association. Then the following year when I joined Idaho Junior Golf and U.S. Kids. My first state experience wasn't until the spring of 2022 (due to Covid) during my sophomore year. Our team placed 2nd in the state followed by my 23rd individual placement. This is where I developed my passion for the game and my goal to play collegiate golf. I was determined to keep getting better throughout the summer and to keep competing, and through all the bad rounds and bad range sessions, my love for the game got even stronger. During the fall 2022 season competing in U.S. Kids, I was the Spokane Tour Champion for the Girls 15-18 age group. I am excited about the progress I have made in these past three years. It has taught me to be more resilient and to work even harder on continuously improving my game. I strive to focus on staying in the moment while keeping a positive mindset by remaining mentally strong throughout the competitions I've played in.
Besides golf, I have been playing basketball since elementary. I started my sophomore year as a Varsity player mostly on the bench, but have just completed my first year as a varsity starter and ended as a First Team All-League of the Greater Spokane League, averaging a double-double in league play. I am also involved in my third year of Leadership, which has taught me multiple things but mainly has given me confidence and the ability to work well with others. This school year, being the first one back to "normal" since quarantine has had our Spirit Club back up in action. I was nominated Vice President of this years club and have experienced and learned so many new things. Our main job was planning Homecoming Week which included planning spirit days, the assmebly, the dance, etc. As being one of the leaders of such a big week I have learned all of the basics to project managment, from the stress to remembering you always need a back up plan.
In school, my goal is to maintain a 3.5 GPA or better during the rest of my junior year and my following senior years at Pullman High School. In college, I have in mind of studying Sports Management, Architecture, or Buisness.
