Personal Statement
I first leaped into the pool when I was three years old, and by seven I was thriving in competition. Swimming is by far my favorite activity. When I’m on land, I wish I weren’t. The driving force behind why, I constantly strive to be a better, faster swimmer. I really pride myself on my discipline – taught to me by my parents at home and brought by me into the pool and classroom.
Recently I participated in an intense and inspiring training week with China’s National Team in Virginia, and later competed against them at the ISCA International Meet. This experience taught me many things about our differences in culture, training, teamwork, sacrifice, but most importantly it reaffirmed how committed I am to swimming at the college level.
As a USA swimmer, I have medaled in championship meets and have been recognized for the last three consecutive years as a top 10 swimmer in New England. I have competed several times at the ISCA International Swim Competitions and placed top three.
There’s nothing like the thrill of competing, but my favorite part of swimming is being a mentor to my younger teammates. I hope to instill the love of the sport as well as the discipline necessary to be competitive.
My academic interest is in Biomedical Engineering. Research, discovery, and ultimately serving humanity, through science are my goals. I’m looking to attend a college that will help me continue to build upon my interests both in academics and sports.
