One day, little 10 year old me decided I was going to do it. I was going to be a swimmer, but not like the swimmer I had been before. I decided I was going to really do it, all the long practices involved. I have never looked back since. On a personal level, swimming has taught me countless lessons about determination, perseverance, kindness, competitiveness, grit, joy, and mental strength. I would not be the person I am today without swimming. I apply swimming life lessons to every aspect of my life. Because of this, I am inspired to encourage others through their swimming journey, and ultimately personal journey. My hope is to support my teammates throughout my college career and well into the future. In addition, I hope to continue to push and challenge myself throughout college. I love a challenge and I am able and willing to continually push myself day in and day out. After all, nothing good comes easy.
An intergral part of a collegiate swim team is a positive, safe team atmosphere. Another, obvious, part of a collegiate swim team is team performance. However, just as swimmers tend to swim faster in pools with clean air rather than ones with air quality issues, athletes preform better when the environment around them is positive and encouraging. It is much easier to swim a hard set with teammates encouraging one another rather than alone, by yourself. I am happy to help foster this environment.
Academically, I sustain a 4.0 gpa. I partake in vigorous extracurriculars such as forensics and competitive choir, through my school. Forensics requires hours after school dedicated to memorization and preparation. Choir requires less after school hours, but takes up school days for choir competitions. I believe academics are important.
As far as goals, I would like to study medicine and become a doctor. I would like to aid those experiencing pain and suffering in order to lessen the hurt of the world one person at a time. Athletically, I would like to make it to Olympic Trials and potentially beyond. I am more than willing to work to achieve these goals.
