Kiley Chapman - S...My name is Kiley Chapman and I love to run! I decided that I wanted to run in track when I was in 7th grade, but I never thought that I’d be a distance runner. About half way through the season my coach said she needed a distance runner. No one wanted to run anything longer than the 800 so I volunteered. I got second in my conference that year and set the school record for 7th grade girls in the mile. I now have the 2nd fastest time in the 2 mile in North Cedar school, and the 3rd fastest in the 1500. I still have one year to go so I hope to set the school record in those as well! I ran my first 5K in 2015 with my mom, and have run several since. In May 2019 I ran my first half marathon. It was more challenging to train for since it was in the middle of track season. However, I had the 3rd fastest time for females in my age group in just under 2 hours. I enjoyed the challenge and look forward to competing in more!
I am now a senior in high school. I have a 3.6 GPA and am a proud member of the National Honor Society as well as student council. I volunteer at my church by helping with Bible School, picking up trash from the ditches, and going on mission trips. I also help design the slides for our video screen, and help run the sound and video system on Sunday mornings. In my spare time I enjoy swimming and boating with my family. I am a member of the North Cedar basketball team, but running is my passion. My freshman year of cross country my team missed qualifying for state by 2 points. That was heartbreaking, but I think it motivated me to train even harder. I was able to qualify for state as a sophomore in cross country and in the 3000 in track. I also qualified for cross country my junior year. I'm the oldest female cross country runner this year and am excited to be a leader! I want my younger teammates to accomplish great things while having fun! I’m excited to finish strong my last year of high school and continue to improve in college.
