2019 HighlightsI pride myself on my title of student athlete because ever since I started playing sports, I’ve been able to succeed at both. It’s typical for someone to boast that playing sports and maintaining their grades has challenged their time management, but I feel like both have given me much more than that. As a volleyball player, debater, and honor roll student, I’ve learned to deal with challenges with an attitude of positive realism that keeps me accountable. I use this to set small goals for myself every time I touch the ball so I can focus in on minimizing mistakes and learning from them to improve. My unshakeable attitude also allows me to be a supportive teammate and solid leader even when things aren’t going our way.
I’d say I’m a pretty fast learner, which combined with my constant dedication and ability to utilize constructive criticism allows me to reach the standards I set for myself. Everyday it’s a new goal and every minute is a new opportunity to be better than the last. As I’ve grown and matured, I’ve learned that it personally does me no good to compare myself to others. Instead, i strive to be my best version of myself and I can only go up from there. I refuse to give up because every loss can be a learning experience, and every mistake to be seen as an opportunity to grow. My passion and dedication to being a better volleyball player everyday has taught me that there is little to nothing I can’t come back from, on the court and in life.
