Personal Statement
Hello, my name is Emaline Ealey. The sport of volleyball isn’t just a game to me, and it never was. Volleyball is something I can look to any day if the week, and something which I can set goals with in to push myself to the next level. The game of volleyball has taught me so much about being a teammate, and making those valuable connections on and off the court. I know that no matter how many hours I could put in the gym, or how many reps I could get in, with volleyball I can always push harder. Outside of volleyball, I adore volunteering for GVEALC (Grand Valley Equine Assisted Learning Center) where I get to see young adults and children’s life’s changed right before my eyes. To volunteer is not only to willingly give your time to serve others, but to fall in love with the thought of others doing well and helping them on their journey. Through all of my life experiences thus far, I have learned that every single step you take counts, no matter how insignificant it may seem. To achieve such large goals like playing a sport in college, you must learn to manage your time, put in work even when you feel you are at your lowest, and most importantly own your future. The many role models I have looked up to in my everyday life have taught me that nothing in life comes easy, and you must work for everything you have. Whether that means putting in extra hours, having restless nights, or getting in the gym those two extra days that are assumed to be for “rest”. Everything in life has a cost, and you decide how far you push that. If a coach asks you to jump, you ask how high. Always exceed the expectations. Not only does talent come into play with sports, but your teamwork quality too. You are only as strong as your weakest link, so you must work as a team. Volleyball had to ahh me that not only does being there for your team matters, but being encouraging and being loud on the court too. As far as my goals for college academics, I wish to complete my degree in Forensic Science or DMD/DDS. I believe that having two paths to succeed upon is a great option for anyone, especially when it comes to a career, which you will spend a good deal of time in. To end off my statement, I just want to thank my parents and my family for getting me to where I have gotten now, and where they will get me in the future.
