My name is Kelsie and I'm from Wellington, New Zealand. For the last 2 years I have been living in Sterling, Colorado and playing volleyball at Northeastern Junior College (NJCAA I). Both Seasons we won the Region 9 championship and went to Nationals to compete, coming 12th and then 16th. The year before, I was in Florida and played at Palm Beach State College (NJCAA I). During this season, I was named in the all Southern Conference 2nd team (Region 8).
I have graduated early with an associates degree in December 2022 with a 4.0 GPA. I am looking to transfer to a four year institution in Spring 2023 or Fall 2023. I would like to major in Athletic Training and get my Master's Degree.
Growing up, sport had a huge impact on my life. I played netball, basketball, tennis, and tried many other sports, however, when I tried volleyball, I instantly knew that I wanted to carry on playing. Unlike other sports, volleyball requires a strong team chemistry and high tactical IQ in order to succeed, among other things. No matter where you are on the court, you have an important job to do that can make or break a team. I finally felt like I belonged in a sport and I excelled more in this sport compared to all of the other ones I had tried out over the years.
I was part of the National Volleyball League in New Zealand in 2021 and this competition showcases the best volleyball athletes in NZ. I was drafted to be part of the Central Hauwhenua team, which is one of four teams that participate in the competition. I was a part of the 2018 and 2019 NZ Women's training squad and was selected in the NZ Junior Women's Development squad in 2018.
I'm looking forward to my next adventure to get a good college education as well as enhance my love and passion for the sport. The greatest gift this sport has given me are my friendships and memories that will last forever, and I'm excited for these to continue.
