Being a student athlete allows me to stay organized and manage my time effectively. While playing on two volleyball teams this year I was able to earn High Honors each semester taking UCONN classes. I have been inducted into the National Honor Society.
I have played volleyball for the past three years playing varsity since sophomore year. I am co-captain of the team with my twin sister, Audra Yazmer. The last two years Haddam Killingworth Volleyball has been the Shoreline Conference Champions.
I have learned from working with the same group of girls that to achieve this success it is not one person’s skills that makes a team great. It is working together and allowing each other the opportunity to improve our weaknesses. I have been able to improve my volleyball IQ and support the team during games by helping my teammates see our opponents before they execute a play. Coach Callender appreciates my versatility utilizing me as a middle hitter and defensive specialist along with outside when needed. During a game I am comfortable with adjusting my play or position as directed by my coach to better support the team.
I believe my academic drive, strong leadership traits, overall work ethic, and volleyball skills will provide me with the talent to compete for a college team. I am planning to study to become a Veterinarian. I am going to be spending a week working with a Veterinarian this summer while also playing Volleyball.
